Water Treatment Equipment Europe to Iraq

May 6, 2010

In 2010, Purewater, a specialised water treatment company based in the UK, were commissioned to provide water treatment equipment to cities across Iraq. As a small company, Purewater realised they needed a partner with considerable Middle East experience and the ability to provide complete supply chain project management from start to finish. So, when they found Redcliffe; the synergies were immediately clear.

“We commend you for the care and attention paid to our supplies and goods…”

The Brief

With contracts to fulfill in at least two cities, Al Majer and Al Bterah, Purewater needed a company to provide a complete turnkey solution. Redcliffe immediately provided a dedicated Project Director, who understood Purewater’s requirements and coordinated all aspects, from the manufacturers to the final destinations and every step of the freight movement inbetween including packing and letters of credit.

Facts & Challenges

With a complex project comes inevitable challenges. And it is how effectively we dealt with these challenges which truly demonstrated our skill and experience. The first challenge was dealing with the 127.2 tonnes of Anthracite filter media, insulating carbon fibres, transported by road from the manufacturer in Wales to our packing facility near Heathrow.

On arrival, it was discovered that the contents had experienced settling during transit which resulted in the loads becoming too wide for the pallets. Our packing department consulted with the manufacturer in order to correct and re-palletise all 106 loads before transferring into five 40ft open-top containers. Through expert planning and control, Redcliffe ensured there was minimal impact on the time and costs to the customer.

Global shortages of containers was another obstacle overcome by sourcing containers from as far away as Europe in order to meet the demands of the project. Changes in Iraqi legislation also provided challenges, including changes to procedures affecting the Letters of Credit. We dealt with this by responding promptly to all legislative changes to ensure no time loss was experienced.

The Result

We have established a reliable supply chain for Purewater into Iraq and have taken on all the stress of managing and controlling the complex freight movements so they don’t have to. Purewater can focus on their customers and redouble their efforts to secure new orders and ultimately grow their international business.
