Working alongside a huge international infrastructure project comes with challenges in abundance, even an experienced freight forwarder may be surprised by unique challenges that require a creative approach to problem solving.
Our customer had more than 400 over-height balconies to transport from China to the world’s largest eco-city, Masdar City in Abu Dhabi. The shipper was looking for a solution which would enable them to transport the façade part of the balconies as stand alone pieces each measuring 4.2 metres in height.
Facts & Challenges
Major challenges included sourcing 40 ft OOGs in order to secure space with the shipping lines and road route-testing to ensure the cargo height was accommodated along the entire length of the land transportation stage of the project including bridges and other structural obstacles and road furniture. To achieve this, trucks with lower racks were required and experienced skilful drivers hired.
“round-the-clock response and swift updating”
At both origin and destination ports, additional supervisory personnel were appointed to ensure the façades were not displaced inside the containers during road transportation prior to the vessel loading and during the vessel discharge. We also made advanced provision for specially equipped lifting gear to be utilised to eliminate any possibility of external damage to the over height cargo.
